We are still holding onto the heat of summer over here, but I'm dreaming of our first Fall here in Kansas. Coming from Arizona, we really don't get to enjoy the seasons.  I am so excited for the air to turn crisp and the leaves to begin to change. There's no better time to refresh your home with cozy, autumn-inspired decor. As designers, we want to bring in the seasons without slapping you in the face. I'm here to give you tips and tricks for decorating your house for fall without the obvious signs that say "Gather" or "Happy Fall, Y'all."

If you follow my page, you know I love my moody magic!! Fall is the perfect time to try out some darker, richer, and moodier colors in your house if you're nervous about bringing them in. These designer-approved tips will help you create a warm and inviting atmosphere that’s perfect for fall.

1. Embrace Warm, Earthy Tones

One of the easiest ways to bring fall into your home is by incorporating warm, earthy tones. Think burnt orange, deep reds, rich browns, and muted golds. These colors naturally evoke the essence of autumn and instantly make any space feel cozier.

Designer Insight: Designers love using these hues to create a welcoming environment. Mixing and matching these colors in different patterns and textures can add depth and interest to your decor.

Tips: Start with small accents like throw pillows, blankets, or table linens in your favorite fall colors. You can also swap out lighter summer decor for richer, warmer tones to create a seamless seasonal transition.

2. Layer Textures for Depth

Fall is all about comfort, and nothing says cozy quite like layering different textures in your home. Mixing materials like wool, velvet, faux fur, and chunky knits adds warmth and a luxurious feel to your space.

Designer Insight: Layering textures is a designer's secret to creating depth and visual interest in a room. It makes a space feel more lived-in and inviting, perfect for those cooler autumn evenings.

Tips: Consider adding a plush area rug, draping a chunky knit throw over your sofa, or incorporating velvet pillows into your living room. These simple touches can make a big impact.

3. Incorporate Natural Elements

Bringing the outdoors in is a key element of fall decorating. Nature provides an abundance of decor inspiration during this season, from dried flowers and branches to the perfect faux stems. Add natural wood or woven elements to add more texture and depth.

Designer Insight: Designers often use natural elements to add an organic, earthy feel to a space. It’s a simple yet effective way to celebrate the season and create a cohesive look throughout your home.

Tips: Create a stunning centerpiece for your dining table with the perfect faux stems from Afloral, or add gorgeous wood boxes to a shelf for an organic touch.

4. Focus on Lighting

As the days grow shorter, lighting becomes even more important in creating a cozy ambiance. The right lighting can transform your home, making it feel warm and inviting.

Designer Insight: Warm-toned bulbs, candles, and lanterns are go-to choices for designers looking to enhance a room's cozy feel. They cast a soft, welcoming glow that’s perfect for fall.

Tips: Swap out harsh, bright lights for softer, warm-toned bulbs. Add oversized candles to your coffee table or line your mantel with lanterns to create a beautiful, ambient glow. String lights are another great option for adding a touch of magic to your space.

5. Update Your Art and Accessories

Changing out your art and accessories is a simple yet effective way to refresh your space for fall. This designer trick can completely transform the look and feel of a room without requiring a major overhaul.

Designer Insight: Designers often rotate art, pillows, and small decor items to reflect the changing seasons. This keeps a space feeling fresh and allows you to showcase different styles throughout the year.

Tips: Consider swapping your summer prints for fall-themed artwork or adding a few new throw pillows in autumnal colors. Small changes like these can make a big difference in creating a cohesive seasonal look.

Decorating for fall doesn’t have to be complicated, and subtle changes can make a big difference. By embracing warm tones, layering textures, incorporating natural elements, and focusing on lighting, you can easily create a designer-inspired look in your home.
