I'm an interior designer, and I left my design firm in Arizona and moved to Lawrence, Kansas, four months ago so my husband could attend law school at KU. I have been working hard to get this old, outdated house designer approved with some design and DIY. With my husband in law school, we are ballin' on a budget. I'm starting the Fall One Room Challenge today, and I can't wait to show you how I will completely transform this boring primary bedroom into a moody retreat in just eight weeks! I have champagne taste on a beer budget, and I can't wait to share the design process with you!

The Primary Bedroom

When we first moved to Kansas, we bought gorgeous new nightstands and a new dresser since our closet is smaller than our old closet, and we desperately needed more storage. Since then, the bedroom has been untouched, minus the few paint samples I've been testing out on the walls. I waited until the last month to redo our bedroom at our previous home and wished I had done it much sooner! I spend so much time as a stay-at-home mom running around constantly; it's nice to have a space just for me and my husband to retreat and relax at the end of the night. With Damon in law school, we are on a very tight budget, and I will show you how I can completely transform this space into champagne taste on a beer budget.

The Before

Our primary bedroom is boring, outdated, and not designer-approved. When I was trying to decide what room to do for the One Room Challenge, I quickly decided that even though there are more significant projects in our home I would like to tackle, I deserve one room that is a retreat and not a construction zone because I have so many projects planned in the next two years!

The Inspiration

Whenever you start the design process, I recommend gathering photos for inspiration (Pinterest and Instagram are a great place to start). Once you have those photos, search for similarities between them. After comparing my inspiration pictures, I quickly realized I wanted to transform this room into a moody masterpiece! My inspo for this room: Chocolate moody paint, wood ceiling treatment, and picture frame molding on the walls.

The Plan

The One Room Challenge is an eight Week Challenge, and I can't wait to transform our primary bedroom completely! The game plan for this room is to install picture frame molding, redo the floors, install new baseboards, color drench the entire room, change out the fan, and install a gorgeous ceiling treatment. I can't wait to take you on this journey and see the transformation!
